About the walk:

Westminster Students will be partaking in a 13.5km walk to school on the morning of the 20th of October. The walk will commence at 5:45am from Henley Square before moving to Glenelg, Somerton Park, and then finishing at Westminster School with different starting points for students to join in along the way. This walk is for such an important cause, and we encourage Westminster families to get around it and support this initiative.

Who are we supporting?

TANZEED- Tanzanian Empowerment through Education

TANZEED believes in fighting poverty through the empowerment provided by education. Education and knowledge enable people to make informed choices, take control of their life and better their personal circumstances.

TANZEED aims to support empowerment through:

  • supporting young people with their primary or high school education

  • building schools in remote areas to enable access to education

  • providing professional development for teachers

  • health education

The most important stakeholders are the Tanzanian people themselves. Consultation and collaboration with the Tanzanian community is a core value for all TANZEED projects

How will your donations help?

This year's main fundraising goal is $10,000 which will support the purchase of rain water tanks, improving the quality of the drinking water at Namelock School (the primary school TANZEED built and supports). Currently their drinking water looks like the adjacent picture, but with your generous donations, we can help stop the spread of disease through the dirty water, and keep the children healthy and able to attend school.

Additional funds will go toward the building of a toilet block at the school which is another $10,000. Currently, the toilet block is far away from the school, and while it may seem crazy to people in Australia, the real risk of wild animals such as cheetahs, lions, and elephants threatens the safety of children and staff going to the bathroom. Funds for a toilet block would mean accessibility for all and a safer environment to learn in.

Over the next year TANZEED want to build another classroom to help the ever-growing school support more students and lift them out of poverty. Any donation you can give is greatly appreciated. Together, we can change lives.
